The young powerhouse singer was dubbed the Queen of Soul as she piled up hits such as “Respect” and “Chain of Fools.” She brought the altar to the airwaves, putting a gospel-steeped R&B sound atop the charts.įranklin became a beacon in the Black community, particularly among women. She paved the way for assertive, independent Black women becoming superstarsīy the time Beyoncé took her place atop the pop-culture throne in the 2000s, the world took such a possibility for granted: Franklin had paved the way for the concept of an assertive, independent Black woman reigning as a superstar. And Detroit became a magnet for aspiring African-American talent - including the Indiana-based Jackson 5 and their precocious kid dynamo front man, Michael Jackson.įor Black America, the little musical house on West Grand Boulevard became, as the Rev. In its cavalcade of young stars, Motown presented the world with a new vision of Black American celebrity: glamorous, charismatic, aspirational. Even on the saddest of the songs - the Miracles’ “The Tracks of My Tears,” Jimmy Ruffin’s “What Becomes of the Brokenhearted” - a poignant, sweetness shined. The massive, enduring body of work created by Motown during its Detroit heyday was largely concocted in the cozy studio dubbed “the Snakepit.” The music was uplifting and infectious, generously lathered in strings and melodies without masking the rhythm and soul at its core. “To know we accomplished that to this degree - that kids and generations and people from all over the world are singing the music right to this day - is a real, real wonderful legacy.” ![]() Great, quality music,’” said Robinson, Gordy’s best friend and a former Motown vice president. “Berry sat down and said: ‘We’re not going to make just Black music, we’re going to make music for all the world. In Detroit, amid the middle-class living fostered by the auto industry, that music had a new environment to evolve and flourish - a place ripe for the blossoming of Motown and myriad other R&B labels in the 1960s. The Great Migration, as it came to be called, didn’t just fill northern cities with eager transplants. The new residents brought their customs with them, including the rich, musical traditions passed down through generations in the South. It wasn’t a fluke that Motown Records took flight in Detroit, part of a surge of creative energy that transformed the city into one of the world’s music capitals. The industrial boom sparked decades earlier by Henry Ford had drawn more than a million migrants - many of them Black southerners lured by the chance of prosperity and a fresh start. (Gf and I will be finishing the game together of course, one way or another. We’ll be sure to keep you updated if anything changes and if the developers have. #Disco elysium switch patch Ps4#With that in mind, it’s entirely possible that Disco Elysium could well appear on the switch in the future, perhaps after exiting the PS4 and Xbox One ports. The Final Cut version released in 2021 for PC, Mac. #Disco elysium switch patch full#But the difference between it running at its full potential, and what is offered on Switch, is worlds apart. Disco Elysium originally released for PC in 2019. I know not everyone agrees on this sub with this opinion and thats fine. But I guess Im here to suggest that anyone who is considering getting this on the Switch to hold off until these issues are fixed, if they even can be. Thanks for being patient I wanted to get this one completed. Let the dice roll and live with the consequences.Īnyway if the Switch is your only way to experience this truely unique game then by all means play and enjoy. But that experience isnt possible on the Switch. And when you put that together with this incredible art-piece of a town thats been created and move around init, its just. Maybe unbearable is a better word? The game has an absolutely incredible soundtrack. And its means different things to different people. I think the term "unplayable" gets thrown around way too often. After reports that players on PS4 and PS5 were running into major bugs in The Final Cut, Za/um announced. #Disco elysium switch patch Patch#Disco Elysium's patch 1.2 is going live today, according to a developer from Za/um Studio.
10/25/2022 0 Comments Apps similar to delicious library![]() ![]() Blogging is both reassuring to students and motivating to see how your peer group is progressing on a task.Įxperimenting with new applications and technology, such as 'audacity' and USB mic in class, and getting Internet access at home has made me more readily embrace new software at home too (in particular 'Dragon Naturally' speech recognition software). The blogg would assist me to keep track of students (which at the moment is very time consuming task and distracts from my lecturing), it is a more efficient means of communication than email, and builds more of a mutually beneficial community - students can follow each other, read the comments, and if they have same problems they can share and help each other. I could envisage setting up a group of my students within a blogg community for a specific module or brief. Regarding blogspot, I've enjoyed blogging on the things we have looked at in class, and have found it useful to follow other students bloggs, this is a real advantage over the written/printed journal that we did as part of the PCET course. They can not only enhance the students presentations but the '' mindmapping ideas process and the 'wordle' extraction and visualisation of the most common words, may actually contribute to conceptual development to a certain extent. The small apps such as '' and 'wordle' will definitely have a place within the design courses that I'm lecturing on. Some of the applications we have looked at, whilst fun to use, have crossed over into the areas I'm lecturing in (such as those with Flash content) so I need to be a little wary of using them and careful to ensure when it's appropriate to do so. ![]() #APPS SIMILAR TO DELICIOUS LIBRARY PDF#In just the last 2 weeks I have had to put various messages and pdf files onto SMU blackboard, and would have liked the option to add more of the elements that have gone into my 'moodle' Student Help Centre. The ones that have stood out for me have been 'moodle' itself, because of the ease and speed with which it can be turned into a learning resources site, and the convenience and logic to having all useful and important course information stored in one central area, accessible to tech savvy students and engaging with them in a meaningful and relevant way. It has also been an opportunity to reflect on all the various software and applications we have used over the option. It was the last E-Learning this week, and it was a chance for us to tie up any loose ends and put the finishing touches onto our 'moodle' sites. ![]() 10/25/2022 0 Comments Portal reloaded levels![]() This Portal works differently from the blue and orange portals already featured in the game. But it makes one major addition to Portal’s mechanics, adding a third portal you can place in the world. Taking place within the cavernous confines of Aperture Science, it features the same test-chamber structure and wry, lightly sadistic humour of the two official games. Portal Reload is a standalone Portal campaign. Then I played Portal Reloaded, which has made me fall in love with Portal’s puzzling in a whole new way, and made me realised that Valve barely scratched the surface of Portal’s puzzling potential. They don’t have that same “wow” factor you get when you walk through one of Portal’s portals for the first time, gasping as you instantaneously transition from one point in space to another.īut I also thought this wasn’t a fair criticism of Portal 2, because I didn’t believe it possible to rekindle that moment of astonishment. But these are fairly minor iterations upon the same concept. Sure, it adds extra puzzle elements like lasers, light-bridges, and various environment-affecting fluids. While I genuinely believe Portal 2 is a fantastic game, my one criticism of it is that it doesn’t bring anything fundamentally new to Portal’s puzzling concept. It is as good a sequel as you could possibly hope for to one of the most original and ingenious games ever made. ![]() I waxed lyrical how it’s possibly the best comedy game ever made, how cleverly it introduces new elements to Portal’s spatial conundrums, and how wonderfully it expands upon Aperture Science as a place. A couple of months back, I slathered my love for Portal 2 all over bit-tech. ![]() 10/25/2022 0 Comments The monolith game the beast![]() Continued abuse of our services will cause your IP address to be blocked indefinitely.
